Folded Book Collection Heidtmann

The Folded Book Collection Heidtmann of the Museum of the University of Tübingen consists of a few specimens from the field of Folded Book Art. In this special field of book art, the books themselves become autonomous aesthetic objects with no practical use by artfully altering their pages through folding. In most cases, these folds relate to the contents of the books, which become sculptures in their own right. This creates exciting interactions between former function and new form. As a passionate artist, the retired Berlin library scientist Prof. Dr. Frank Heidtmann (*1937) transformed his research object into book art in the narrowest sense of the word. Folding utility books such as catalogs, encyclopedias, thick commentaries, and novels into book objects results in a completely different view of the medium book, which now presents itself in a new aesthetic appearance.
