Guided tour of the lock laboratory
The castle laboratory of Tübingen has brought forth many scientific achievements, alongside significant researchers, amongst others Felix Hoppe-Seyler and Friedrich Miescher. The nucleic acids form the substantial basis of our lives. The focus here is on the worldwide oldest isolate of nucleic acids from 1869 which provides both the oldest and a unique contribution to the otherwise Anglo-American research dominated DNA discovery in the German-speaking world. In the 19th century already, researchers tried to acquire a deep understanding of the phenomenon of the living. What significance do chemical processes have for life? What are the particularities of blood? The diverse questions that have driven knowledge creators in the biochemical laboratory in the former castle kitchen are conveyed in this guided tour, thereby also using historical laboratory equipment.
